Sajal Gupta joins Shoogloo Network as CEO
11 Aug 2009
Shoogloo Network, which is powered by UK-based Online Media Group (OMG) and provides solutions based on a pay-for-performance model, has appointed Sajal Gupta as chief executive officer. Prior to joining Shoogloo, Gupta was general manager and India head, business development at Regalix. He has also worked as head of international sales at Times Internet Ltd (Indiatimes.com).

L D Sharma, founder and managing director, Shoogloo, has said, “We are really excited at having Sajal on board. His wealth of experience and deep understanding of the internet industry is exactly what we need to lead Shoogloo into the next phase of its growth. I am sure that under his leadership, we will be able to evolve into a leading player in the online media space in India.”

“In an economy where cost-cutting has become a necessity, the pay-for-performance offering that Shoogloo offers is a compelling proposition to companies looking to get the most out of their sales effort,” Sajal Gupta, CEO, Shoogloo Network, has said. “The challenge for me will be to educate the market about the concept of affiliate marketing as a viable internet marketing tool.”

Shoogloo Network has been changed its name to Trootrac Media. I joined it as an affiliate one year ago. And I earned more than their minimum payout amount. I was waiting for a cheque that they might issue it to me accordingly. But It never happened. I contacted them by phone and email repeatedly. Unfortunately, they issued no cheque for me. They gave no reason. No call back. No email reply till today. Such an affiliate network should be avoided. Be aware.

I guess you are right but the interesting thing is that openx platform itself is so bad the even IBIBO had to change it after running it for a few months.

Also The cost of training affiliates again and again on tech and interface is a huge cost and time for any company.

Affiliates run companies with third party software and not networks. World over the large networks use robust tech solutions and not rent solutions on cost per use basis.

The software for running an affiliate is no longer an issue. One can easliy move over to http://www.openx.org should OMG leave.
IMO Affiliate Network should concentrate on building relationship and not on developing software platform.

I was surprised to read this. LD has not been able to even reach an Iota of its competition. I think that is the reason he has given up being the top man running the show at shoo goo loo . As i said earlier I am hoping sajal to do a good job and start from stratch to establish the credibility that shoogloo never got in the first place.

shoogloo is an affiliate running a so called network thru a third party software whi is not rocket science. I would love to see the business contingency plan if OGM leaves them .. the entire network will just fall apart .they are too much dependent on external factors with no internal strength to run a successful affiliate network. business are not built like this with all eggs in one basket.

Also being a publisher and a network at the same time is always a threat to other publishers on the network. it is also a perceived threat in the minds of advertisers as networks world wide are treated as third party transparent entities who do not mix the two things.

I am not sure if they can easly distinguish the same in their busines / pitch presentations to advertisers.

Having said all this I am sure the new investors are able to take controlling stake in the organization and build it as an organization and not like a one more fly by night network thst we so often in indian digital space.

sajal, may god give u all the patience and strength to run this organization.

hoping to see some good business coming your way.

best of luck

Its appalling to read comments ,quite surprised with kind of cynicism LD generates,is its his persona or his humble background and subsequent rises which generates so much hate , i am baffled to find the answer. LD u should continue working hard for yourself rather to prove a point to your critic , to me even mere proving a point inadvertently is injustice to your hardwork, your growth, and urge to do bigger things..
Follow nishkam karma policy..and work hard...

LD has played a hugely importnat role in setting up DGM .. LD was the first guy to be talking about affiliate marketing in India .. rest have just picked up from him. There are enough people to piggy ride on a good idea.
Do not see why he cannot with Shoogloo what he did with dgm.

LD you do manage get your baitors to follow you all around.Am surprised if they themselves have any work considering writing nasty comments is all they do!
I guess some people just are born insecure only trying to pull down people"who is sajal"and "what has he done" >>does it matter ? For a change try and feel good about people progressing and trying to make a difference.

All the best Sajal and LD ! ROck it!

Will Sajal be able to help sagging graph of Shoogloo or is it Shoogloo that is helping sagging graph of Sajal's career?

Sadly Shoogloo doesnt have anything to show in terms of success, over past 1 year.

Also heard the news that Mahendra Swarup & Smile Interactive have invested money in Shoogloo under entity of Alcumus? Doesnt it conflict with their Group M & Yahoo investment?

Congrats Sajal. Affiliate marketing is at a nascent stage in India. Lot needs to be done to educate the market & building some feed standards for making things easier for affiliates, so that the market can grow. Wish you best of luck for your new challenging role

Hi Sajal,
First of all congrats for your new assignment. I am sure that CEO designation will make you happy but it will not be a easy job. If I am not wrong, Shoogloo is far behind then DGM. There are lot many things to do. Economy is still not out of recession phase and people are not feeling free to spend on net. It is needed to attract more new advertisers in shoogloo portfolio. Affiliates are still not serious in promoting Indian merchants other than finance sector merchants.

I wish that you will guide Shoogloo to reach a position where the DGM is at now.

I think Abhishek, Shoogloo is powered by OMG (UK) and not dgm. OMG is another top affiliate in UK like dgm.

chalo.. ab LD ko shoo goo loo manage nahi karna pedega and he will get more free time to do other stuff... I thik it was getting boring for him there. with no business , no affiliates and no advertisers.

I am hoping sajal to do a better job than him.

BEST OF LUCK SAJAL. Good to see a professional finally.
