Google has started selling its much awaited tablet ‘Nexus 7’ in India via its virtual store Google Play. Priced at Rs 15, 999 the tablet is available days after company’s chairman Eric Schmidt, who was in Delhi recently, apologized for the non-availability of
Nexus products in India. It will ship to consumers on April 5 making it the first Nexus product to be available on Google Play store in India.
"I apologize for the lack of Nexus devices in India... But this is something we are working on. Part of the problem is that our products are more expensive than what they should be here in India. Then there are certification issues. We want a fully-serviced market," Schmidt said last week at Google Big Tent event.
Powered by Tegra 3 Quad-core processor running at 1.3Ghz, Nexus 7 has a seven-inch screen with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. It has 1GB RAM and a 1.2 mega-pixel camera for front chat. For now, Google is offering only one model of Nexus 7 in India. The device has 16GB storage and support for Wi-Fi but not 3G.
Google's support page informs consumers that the company would ship the tablet to most location in India. The delivery period is three to seven days. The device was launched in US last year.
