Deap Ubhi, who had founded local information search site Burrp.com, which got acquired by Infomedia 18 in 2009, has joined online mobile recharge platform FreeCharge.in. Ubhi has confirmed this to India Digital Review. Though his designation in the company has not been decided yet, Ubhi says that he has been working closely with the team of FreeCharge across multiple customer-facing departments.
Deap Ubhi co-founded Burrp.com with Anand Jain on August 15, 2006. Post the Infomedia 18 acquisition, Ubhi remained as a part of the company till April 2010, post which he went to the US for personal reasons. According to Ubhi, he came back to India in September 2011.
FreeCharge.in, which allows users to recharge their mobiles in return for discount coupons, had raised Rs 20 crore from Sequoia Capital in January 2012. The portal was launched in August 2010 by Mumbai-based Accelyst Solutions and has tied up with retailers and service providers including McDonald's, Puma, Shoppers Stop and Jet Airways. Other internal sources have told us that Ubhi's official role in the company will be made clear within the coming two weeks.
