Optics and imaging company, Nikon India has issued a statement stating that “Flipkart (Flipkart Internet Private Limited) and Snapdeal (Jasper Infotech Private Limited) are not our authorized partner/dealer in India for Nikon Products” on its website.
It is to be noted that authorized dealers sell authentic goods which also means users are entitled to company’s warranty schemes and other post purchase services.
Reacting on the development, FlipKart spokesperson stated, "While we cannot comment on specifics we can assure customers buying Nikon products on Flipkart.com that the products are genuine. Customers will not be affected and will continue to enjoy the warranty and services as before."
However, Nikon India’s statement does not really hold relevance as FlipKart and SnapDeal are essentially marketplaces which means they are merely a platform where sellers or dealers are selling their goods.
Both these portals like eBay do not keep inventories and sell products directly. We are yet to receive SnapDeal's statement on the development.
Interestingly in a highly competitive and price sensitive market like India offline and online players are battling out to get the major consumer market share and in such a situation whether Nikon India’s statement would have any significant affect on company’s product sales on these platforms is to be seen.
