Zomato has tied up with taxi-hailing app Uber to enable users to book cabs to the restaurant they are planning to eat at, reports the Indian Express.

Online restaurant search and discovery service Zomato will bring the Uber experience to the Zomato app, enabling users to book cabs to the restaurant they are planning to eat at, the two companies said in a statement.

According to the report, the feature has been made available to Zomato users in London and South Africa, and will now be rolled out to users in other key markets.

“This partnership has been rolled out to Zomato users in 27 cities across 13 countries — India, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Indonesia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Portugal, Qatar, Turkey, UAE and the United States,” the companies were quoted in a statement as saying.

Commenting on the development, Zomato Co-Founder and COO Pankaj Chaddah told the Indian Express, “This partnership makes eating out more convenient with the Zomato app connecting to Uber services seamlessly.”

Once a user has found a place to dine at or have drinks at using the Zomato app, a tap on the Uber button on the restaurant page will allow one to find the nearest Uber cab. Users will also be able to choose the Uber service that best suits them, says Zomato.

“We are delighted to be expanding the scope of our partnership with Zomato. Across six continents, Uber allows riders to connect with their cities in new ways,” Uber Head of Business-Asia, Eric Alexander was quoted in the report as saying.

Zomato is a restaurant search and discovery app, providing in-depth information for over 1 million restaurants across 22 countries. Uber is currently present in over 300 cities in 56 countries.

The announcement comes after Zomato’s recent acquisition of NexTable, an online table reservation platform based in Charlotte, North Carolina. NexTable will soon be renamed to Zomato Book. The NexTable team along with CEO and founder TC DeSilva will be joining the Zomato team.

NexTable allows customers to make restaurant reservations online in real time, and includes table management and marketing tools for restaurants. Zomato had already announced online reservation for app users in Dubai.
