Shopping search engine, ShoppingWish has launched barcode scanning based price comparison mobile app, Scandid for the Indian market. The app supports scanning of products in books, electronics, appliances, personal care and more categories. Users can scan the barcode present on the product box or search by product name and instantly get prices and coupons for products across 150+ online retailers.
Scandid also allows for sharing of deals or products through different social networking platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter etc. The app supports all UPC, EAN and ISBN barcode formats. The company informed that the iOS version of the app is also under development and will be released in the next few weeks.
Barcode scanning for shopping is very popular in US and Europe markets with apps like Shopsavvy and RedLaser having download numbers in tens of millions.
Founded by former Microsoft executive Madhur Khandelwal and Dhingana co-founder Sushi Choudhari, ShoppingWish raised undisclosed amount of angel funding from Sandeep Johri and four other angel investors from New York and Silicon Valley in May this year.
