Harish Bahl, Pearl Uppal join hands to launch ecommerce site FashionAndYou.com
10 Nov 2009
Harish Bahl, founder and CEO of Smile Interactive Technologies Group, has joined hands with Pearl Uppal, who recently left Yahoo India as director sales, to launch FashionAndYou.com, an online retail shop of luxury fashion goods. The website is expected to launch its services on November 16, 2009.

FashionAndYou.com claims that it will bring luxury and high fashion brands at discounts upto 70 per cent off retail to its members. According to the company, top designer products will be sold on FashionAndYou.com through member-only sale events, with each sales event lasting only 24 to 72 hours. Membership to the website will be available only by invitation.

“Indian consumers have always perceived internet as a platform to deliver great deals, and luxury brands have long been waiting for alternate sales channels which would extend sales reach without diluting their brand. This business model addresses both these needs very well,” Harish Bahl, founder and chairman, FashionAndYou.com, has said.

“High fashion and luxury brands have dedicated consumers who would love to access these brands at insider prices. With Fashion & You’s vision for convergence of retail and the internet, I am confident that we will redefine how fashion and design goods are marketed and distributed in India,” Pearl Uppal, co-founder and CEO, FashionAndYou.com, has added.

According to Fashion & You, Rahul Narvekar has joined the company as director brand sourcing, while Aakash Goel has joined as director, IT and Operations. Prior to joining Fashion & You, Narvekar was senior general manager at DLF Retail Developers where he helped set up the DLF Emporio Mall in Delhi. Goel has previously worked as a consultant at McKinsey and Company.

The biggest Problem with this "Fashion and You" BUGGERS is that they keep on sending SMS SPAM to their customers, so many times, that it cause pain in your fingers to delete those sms. They should change the name to "Fashion and you and your bleeding fingers".

STOP SENDING SMS SPAM TO PEOPLE, IT'S NOT DOING ANY GOOD THEN SENDING PEOPLE AWAY FROM YOU.

@ Impartial Thinking - Dude you seem to really be an enlightened guy in the business and also seem to be having some kind of grudge against the people running the show :-)

I agree to most of your points, actually I agree to you in total. I liked the Credit Card Swiping & Extra Martial Affairs connection :-)

Otherwise Harish Bahl and his team - why ru after them?

There you go,
problem solved . . . .
DLF emporio mall does put up sales now why should one care about a 24-72 hour sale . . .

Doesnt seem to me the right place at all now for online advertising . . .

all the best to the jack and his team of jokers BTW . . .atleast you guys could have done better with the inagural party of fashionandyou with some top designers and big shots . . . .its a pitty to see poor digital camera pictures you could have atleast used a DSLR ?

Theres an unpopular old saying in hindi . . . it goes . . .

KHATE HAIN MOONG PHALI AUR PAAD BADAAM KE MARTE HAIN

To,

The conciousness is a gift that each and every individual has and it is really upto that person on how he uses it to its full potential.

There is nothing that cannot be sold in this world and every product can be a good product, every concept can be a great concept.

Its just that all of us are born with some strenghts and weaknesses made up of ever variable mental engagements and interaction with one self.

Yes these brands dont have a second and default pieces available here, because they arent manufactured here. But if you get a chance do lookup the garment industry you with be enlightened.

One thing that i really regret is that Dr. Peter Drucker(R.I.P) didnt leave any comments for the E-business.

thailand is a hub for all this . . .i mean shoes from prada are exceptional but those string heels that my girlfriend was wearing the other day did catch my attention for good.

So how are you suppose to check the size on the internet ?. . . .place your foot on the screen with a java application for the measurements ? . . . .sounds good.

I am unfamiliar witht he term VCS ....please explain . .

Viral marketing can be exceptionally successful among women . . .if you know what i mean.

goods can even be sold at the same prices no need for discounts but one should know how to sell them.

But all in all the purpose here is not to sell the luxury brand at better prices by either cheap sourcing or by making way for rejections but to get as many people to subscribe as members and make a decent number of prospective customres or viewers for the advertising on this website. Well the target audience for advertising will be much sorted and precise with a limited number . . .i wonder how will that help online advertising ? . . .Well the brands they want to sell dont need any advertising as such femina and cosmopolitant solve their purpose well.

Now i wonder what kind of clients wish to advertise on such a website, top indian designers have always been known for their non payment of dues . . . .people working for them know that well.

I dont know, the bag they are trying to sell on the website . . .how many pockets does it have what materials is it how would it look on my shoulder . . .what is the actual size. a three day mad rush of this kind, if people really want to buy a three day mad rush product might even rush to the store to check it out and then buy it on the net. but think of a madruch among people who can even buy it at a higher price with no regrets at all.

Ofcourse there is a possibility that , that particular item may not be in the store at all. the only women i can imagine who can be good at credit card swapping are the ones whose husbands are having multiple extra marital affairs.

Well all the best to all the hot shots, who have placed their resignations against their well respectable positions in some of the most well sorted organisations in this world for the purpose of building upon a fashion website which will be according to them primarily dedicated toward the sale of luxury branded fashion merchandise at very temptational prices online.

Harish Bahl Jack of all Ace of None, All the rest are quite possibly JOKERS !!

hey impartial thinking, lot of what you've said is right but to me these brands that these guys might want to sell online actually dont have seconds or default pieces available in the market so i wonder if that could be a damage however whatever you've said sounds so real that i wonder what would these guys do without revenues for a long time to come, mr.bhall sure seems to have a deep pocket to hold off trying circumstances it looks like. i dont think any vcs will even touch this model but for all you know it is a funny game with the vcs they have no logic behind their investments and so will do a foolish mistake of investing in this. my gut feel is that bhal will change his model going forward because this wont last in india.

Almost every brand has a factory outlet, where they sell rejections or B products . . .that is after sorting the goods that have to sold at the actual retail outlets.

Now what is the rich and famous community supposed to do when every other person gets the luxury brands at 70% less?.

Get more high end and pricier brands ? . . .That might not impress the europeans.

Duty Free shops have always been a better choice for me.

Not to mention . . .the luxury brands usually release 3-4 different collections every year. Its quite possible these morons might sell rejections(with poor fabrics, defective printing, tears, loose threads and altogether with uneven measurements and a louse fitting)or atleast 5-6 years old stock.

I mean one can go ahead and buy a wonderful and stunning cheap replica of a Rado to a rolex. But i think very few of us are stupid enough to not be able to make out whether one can afford a genuine one or if he is wearing a replica, but hey i mean its a great way to fool your friends, mine did when i was in school .. with a cheap rado replica and then with an omega until i found out the truth.

Imagine . . .a girl buys a nice moschino or a louis vuitonn bag at 70% off from fashion and you considering the average price of rs20000 less 70% you get it at Rs6000 thats a bargain baby !! . . .and then she takes it on a bus to college. But considering that yes it could be nice replacement to that Janpath ka jhola.

Now another matter of great concern to me is that . . .not many people buy garments without trying and most of their shopping is done by picking a lazy day of the week when the couple goes out on a pre planned shopping spree, but women they just cant resist it, they do it quite often its like a shot of espresso for the week.

This website concept reminds me of those clearence sales at the lodhi hotel and taj palace which used to be thronged by wannabes from each and every village adjoining every decent locality in the city. Dont get me wrong, my driver used to take the day offduring such sales. Not to forget those big full pages advertisements in the magazine section of each and every news paper in circulation which included every possible brand, did used to get people talking, some of them planning to visit and the rest thinking to check it out for the first time, as usual the experienced never wanted to talk about it or even go there again.

DLF EMPORIO is actually the hub . . .A place where beemers, mercs, audis, bentleys and what not land up with the top cream of the society, whos who of the city finding their fix for what their money can do . . .think of such privelegde and power in the hands of big time suckers.

Obviously people who want to buy such brand do have the time also to see and buy. I mean thats they favourite pass time buying online that to in a mad rush of 3 days . . .doesnt taste good and suit their status.

membership by invitation Hmmm ........the top stores have already given their guest book away to the organised criminals what else do you expect . . . .they might try to sell merchandise which is never liked by any webthe customers and is put up in a corner.

though i dont have the membership but i can actually imagine what they could possibly be upto . . .

It can be conclusively said that what will be sold on the website really wont be generating the income as advertising on fashion and you will be the prime target and is the initiative . . .i hope the associates are being paid handsomely.

But what happened to manish vij isnt he a part of this and C.P. too ? . . .fashionandyou webpage suggests that these guy would have actually been useless here as far as designing is considered . . .well i mean altogether the whole web design.

These guy did go all the way to form tyroo stabbing well in the quasar media's back ! . . What do you call such people ?
SCHEMERS . . .

One thing i personally like about the ebusiness is that you really dont need much investment . . .and use the social networks for popularity . . .

All the best to harish Bhall and family and hats of to their indirect approach towards online advertising camouflaged in a bikini made up of an outstanding website.

well feel free to leave a comment on this blog for more further free advice from me . .

There has been no real innovation in the retail landscape for a very long time. Even VentePrivee only took offline trunk sales / sample sales online. So please take the blinders off & stop riding a high horse. Second, real innovation is actually seen either in genuine technology or in discovering new business models to serve the bottom of the pyramid & in both these spaces India has become a powerhouse. Fundamental research is now conducted in India for more than 80 of the fortune 100 & companies like Tata (steel & auto), Airtel, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries are leading innovators in their space.

While you may be miffed at the thought of competition, please do not extend your comments to a nation specially considering Vente Privee is French (a struggling country with an overstated sense of import, a cultural crisis, and a collapsing economy!).

Finally, the indian innovation will need to come to the fore to make this model a success in India (as you may have read the other comments on India's buying behaviour on the web) and that is where the true test of innovation will lie. I trust the quality of leadership of this company will make a difference.

You know, I do understand now why you are scared of the competition!!

Bon Chance!

LOL :) we still borrow concepts that worked else where ....So much for all the hype about Indian innovation.....a Shame!!

Nevertheless Good luck to these guys. Atleast they are the "one in the arena"

France -> vente-privee.com

Unites States -> Gilt Groupe www.gilt.com

Spain -> www.buyvip.com

But recruiting the guy who made marquee brands set shop in DLF Emporio as the brand sourcer is a master stroke!!! :)

Another struggle starts! Except for buying books on Indiaplaza.in where there is good range, low prices and timely deliveries, I am yet to see any decent internet retail business in India that delivers value to customers. Let's see, all the best to them.
