Two major communication groups, Reliance Communications and Sun Group are in talks to merge their DTH businesses, reported Economic Times. Reliance Digital TV and Sun DTH will now become a single entity. With this merger, the subscriber base of both these competitions will overtake the dominant presence of Airtel Digital’s market share.
Sun Group and Anil Ambani's Reliance Communications had met earlier this month to discuss the deal. The report said that the Sun Group is likely to own a majority stake in the merged company while Reliance is likely to own less than 26% in the company.
As per a report by Singapore based Media Partners Asia (MPA) Ltd, Reliance Big TV had 4.4 million subscribers while Sun Direct had 7.6 million with the merger the total subscriber base will surpass Airtel Digital’s subscriber base which stood at 8 million in the end of June, 2012.
