India’s e-commerce giant, Flipkart has revealed that it is receiving over 20 per cent of its orders from mobile phones on the back of growing penetration of smart phone users who prefer buying merchandise through m-commerce mode.
Director (Mobile Marketing) Mausam Bhatt, said, "More than 20 per cent of our orders are coming from mobile at present. And we see a lot of mobile users, who place orders, are from non-metro cities where we see a lot of potential for growth."
He further said that the products which are ordered the most through mobile phones include mobile phones, tablets, cameras, footwear and apparels.
Bhatt added, "Increasing smart phone penetration and lower costs of devise has further contributed to growth of m-commerce.”
Bhatt went on to quote a report by Boston Consulting Group, according to this report 45 per cent of online consumers in India access the internet only through their mobiles and this figure is expected to increase to 60 per cent over the next three years.
Talking about Flipkart’s mobile app, available for Android and iOS platforms, Bhatt said, "Through this app, users can check prices instantly using voice search and barcode scanning and can also share product information with friends easily through call, SMS, email, etc." He also informed that the company was planning to roll out its app for Windows phones too
Elaborating on the future plans of the company, Bhatt said, "We will soon introduce furniture, white goods as new product category.”
