The Calcutta High Court has passed an order to all ISP’s and mobile service providers for banning Songs.pk from being accessed by the subscribers. This comes after two industry bodies and one music company have sought a legal restraint on 11 companies to block access to the music website Songs.pk.
Phonographic Performance Ltd, The Indian Music Industry, and Sagarika Music Pvt Ltd are seeking a restraint on internet access to download, stream, disseminate, and reproduce copyright music on this site, according to a public notice.
The internet service and infrastructure providers who have been named in a civil suit in the Calcutta High Court include Dishnet Wireless Ltd, Reliance Wimax Ltd, Hathway Cable & Datacom Pvt Ltd, Hughes Communications Ltd India, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd, Reliance Communications Infrastructure Ltd, Wipro Ltd, Sify Technologies Ltd, Bharti Airtel Ltd, Vodafone India Ltd, and BG Broadband India Pvt Ltd.
When the cost of music in sites like Hungama.com are just Re 1 per song, there is no reason for consumers to download from pirated sites like songs.pk. This is a welcome move.
Songs.pk is one of the most popular site used by almost everyone online for Downloading latest music. I strongly believe that banning such a site is not a good move. Instead we must look for some alternate methods like Ad Revenue Sharing where everyone is in a win-win situation be it the music companies, the songs.pk website or the users.
Let internet be free and accessible to all.
