VC-backed online healthcare store, HealthKart.com
has launched HealthKartPlus as an online generic drug search engine for consumers
to find out all about what medicines to take, their correct dosage and even
compare drugs by prices whenever they want. The company has also launched smart
phone applications on Android and iPhone devices for HelathKartPlus.
According to the company, HealthKartPlus is
aimed at increasing transparency about medicines and offers a vast number of
different brands of drugs with detailed salt composition, mapped against other
less expensive brands selling the same salt. Users can explore how prescription
medicines work and understand the required precaution and contra-indication.
The application empowers one to compare drugs by prices and choose the most
cost effective generic drug for a given prescription.
Prashant Tandon, Co-Founder, HealthKart,
said, “HealthKartPlus is our attempt to help consumers understand their
medicines. After downloading this application, they can now check for quality
substitutes and learn about prices of medicines by simply accessing their
smartphones.”
Sameer Maheshwari, fellow Co-Founder of
HealthKart, added, “It is a unique and futuristic way of empowering consumers
to question unfair trade practices and enhance their knowledge about various
drugs available for a medical ailment.”
In January 2012, Gurgaon-based HealthKart
had raised Rs 27 crore ($5.2 million) as Series A round of funding from Sequoia
Capital and Omidyar Networks. The company had earlier raised over $1 million
from KAE Capital and Sequoia in seed funds.
