Times Internet’s online video service, BoxTV has been made public officially it was an invite only service earlier. Launched in September last year, the service offers movies, TV shows, short films, documentaries which users can watch on a regular web browser or through mobile devices. BoxTV has also inked deals with Sony Pictures Television and Disney UTV for premium content on its video streaming service.
BoxTV also offers a large selection of regional content in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Bhojpuri and Bengali. It claims to have 17,000 hours of movie content and 5,000 hours of TV shows.
The service works on a freemium model wherein certain content is available for free for users while rest is available on a paid subscription basis. The company has slashed its prices from Rs 499 per month to Rs 199 per month.
BoxTV is also available on mobile and tablet across iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets; Kindle Fire, EvoTV, Woxi Pod and Roku. The company will soon roll out its apps for Windows 8, J2ME and Blackberry platforms.
Recently, the company has also tied-up with UTV Motion Pictures, Shemaroo Entertainment Rajshri Entertainment and Everymedia Technologies for Bollywood and Regional content in addition to their agreements with major International studios; Sony Pictures Television, Disney UTV and Celestial Entertainment for premium Hollywood content.
