Author, columnist and journalist Madhu Trehan of the Newstrack fame and the Founding Editor of India Today magazine, along with three other colleagues, has launched NewsLaundry.com. “We at NewsLaundry are from the world of news and want to turn the mirror on ourselves,” says the website.
According to a report in MXMIndia, the site was launched on February 6, 2012 and is the brainchild of Madhu Trehan. The website has been launched with a four-member team including Abhinandan Sekhri, Prashant Sareen, and Roopak Kapoor along with video editors, production people and directors.
Madhu Trehan said, “I have always enjoyed creating a product that doesn’t exist. That happened when I started India Today. The leading magazine at that time was The Illustrated Weekly, which belonged to a dated post colonial time. Newstrack was developed because there was no television news other than Doordarshan. NewsLaundry is a product which is not a clone of any other website in the world. The nature of it creates a new space.”
Abhinandan Sekhri had reported for Newstrack on the issues that were most irrelevant and likely to be dropped and then for Aaj Tak. He also wrote for NDTV’s political satire shows Gustakhi Maaf and Great Indian Tamasha from its launch in 2004 to April 2010.
Prashant Sareen had been a part of the early teams in all TV space ground-breakers. Reported for Newstrack in the earliest days, edited NDTV’s Good Morning India, producer of Newstrack in its Doordarshan avatar, executive producer for Sony TV in its initial days and Roopak Kapoor is an Entrepreneur-Producer with no news background whatsoever.
