Facebook starts Aadhar based sign up

It is in testing phase so majority of the users will not be able seeing this. India is currently one of the fastest growing markets for Facebook

With an aim to curb fake accounts on Facebook, the social networking site has started asking users to enter their name as per their Aadhar card while creating an account in India. However, Facebook has made it clear that Aadhar based sign up is not compulsory.

“We want to make sure people can use the names they’re known by on Facebook, and can easily connect with friends and family. This is a small test where we provide additional language when people sign up for an account to say that using the name on their Aadhaar card makes it easier for friends to recognise them. This is an optional prompt which we are testing, people are not required to enter the name on their Aadhaar card,” a Facebook spokesperson was quoted as saying by media reports.

It is pertinent to note that Facebook is not asking for any other Aadhaar details, it is just asking to enter name as per Aadhar.
