Zee may launch an English horizontal portal

Zee Entertainment Enterprises, which already runs a number of vertical portals including ZeeTV.com, ZeeNews.com, ZeeCric.com, SpiceZee.com and MyPopkorn.com, is planning to launch an English horizontal portal in a joint a venture with a US based technology firm, reports Afaqs.

The proposed horizontal portal is expected to be hosted at India.com, which is currently owned by US-based World Media Group. Though India.com is already active but it is understood that it will be revamped with new content and user interface and then re-launched.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises intends to consolidate most of its offline content at India.com. The media group is expected to initially invest about Rs 50 crore, which will include the cost of content, technology and brand building through advertisements, on the launch of the portal.

    Yahoo! spend 40 crores in india part of their global marketing campign in the last 6-7 months .so 50 crores launch is nothing . its not an over crowded market for portals – you need a cutting edge technology to deliver a value service offerind that can be differenciated

    Remeber they will be playing with the bigwigs Yahoo! and Google with 65% and 80% reach in India and sweep almost 75% of revenues in this business between them
