Zee, Mail.com set up joint venture to launch a portal; Arvindra Kanwal appointed CEO of JV

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL), which already runs a number of vertical portals including ZeeTV.com, ZeeNews.com, ZeeCric.com, SpiceZee.com and MyPopkorn.com, has set up a joint venture with US-based Mail.com Media Corporation (MMC) to launch an online and mobile entertainment portal, whose name is yet to be announced. Arvindra Singh Kanwal has been appointed chief executive officer of the new venture.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL), which already runs a number of vertical portals including ZeeTV.com, ZeeNews.com, ZeeCric.com, SpiceZee.com and MyPopkorn.com, has set up a joint venture with US-based Mail.com Media Corporation (MMC) to launch an online and mobile entertainment portal, whose name is yet to be announced. Arvindra Singh Kanwal has been appointed chief executive officer of the new venture.

Arvindra Kanwal was till recently chief revenue officer at SMSGupshup.com, which is owned by Mumbai-based Webaroo Technology. Prior to that he was chief media revenue officer at Rediff.com. Kanwal has also worked as president at India.com and as director and head of online media at Indian Express. Interestingly, it was earlier reported that ZEE may host its new entertainment portal at India.com.

Punit Goenka, chief executive officer and managing director, ZEEL, has said, “This partnership comes at the right time as India’s inclination towards digital entertainment is increasing. Being pioneers in the media and entertainment sector in India, it is most natural for us to provide wholesome entertainment to our viewers. With the launch of this portal, we will reinforce ZEEL as the one-stop destination in entertainment.”

    The venture is India.com. The most open ‘secret’. They have spoken to a ton of people about this position for the last 12 months. I think its a little delayed but good luck!

    Shocked to see its ZEE as the partner for a net company like MMC. Hmm…
