A study by Info Edge India’s matrimonial portal Jeevansathi.com shows that there are a considerable number of youngsters who post profiles of their single parents to help them find a life partner. Interestingly, all these kids want their parents to find a companion with whom they can spend the rest of their lives comfortably. For instance, a 23 year old daughter has written on Jeevansathi.com about how after 20 years she would love to fill the void of a husband’s place in her mother’s life.

“This ain’t for a woman but for a mother who is the centre of my universe… A graduate, a home maker and a committed person is less to define her as a person. Having to raise two young kids has not been an easy battle for my mother… A compassionate person, with an air of sophistication and gentlemanly attitude who would compliment her nature and yet maintain his place in the relation is the best suited match.” This is just one of the many profiles that have been posted by children who are looking for companions for their single parents, according to Jeevansathi.

“Due to the social taboo of second marriages most single parents end up leading a lonely life,” Rohit Manghnani, business head, Jeevansathi.com, has said. “However, it is interesting to note that children are now convincing their parents for re-marriage so that they have a secure future. This shows that the relationship between kids and parents is becoming more open. Children are no longer averse to discussing sensitive issues such as their own parents’ remarriage.”

According to Jeevansathi.com, the details of the posted profiles show that most children are keen to get their single parents settled because they have seen them struggling all through their lives, taking care of daily chores and their children’s upbringing all alone. A youngster who has posted the profile of his father says, “Since the demise of our mother about 24 years back, our dad has been our constant unconditional support. What we are today is all because of him. He had struggled a lot and now we wish that our father should enjoy the fruits of life.”
