Yahoo names former PayPal President Scott Thompson as new CEO

Yahoo Inc has roped in PayPal’s president Scott Thompson as its
new chief executive officer. The move comes in almost after four months the company
fired its last CEO, Carol Bartz. Yahoo has said that said Scott Thompson will
assume the new role on January 9, when interim CEO Tim Morse resumes his prior

abrupt departure of Carol Bartz. Prior to his job at PayPal, Thomson worked for
Visa and Barclays Global Investors.

Yahoo chairman Roy Bostock said, “Thompson’s deep
understanding of online businesses combined with his team building and
operational capabilities will restore the energy, focus, and momentum necessary
to grow the core business and deliver increased value for our shareholders. Thomson’s
primary focus will be on the core business, and as CEO and director, he will
work closely with the board as we continue the strategic review process to
identify the best approaches for the Company and its shareholders.”
