Vietnam has set up a 10,000-strong cyber unit named Force 47 to tackle with wrong views growing online.
“The unit has been set up to fight proactively against the wrong views,” Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, deputy head of the military’s political department was quoted as saying by local newspapers.
He also informed that Force 47 is already functional in various sectors while speaking at a conference of the Central Propaganda Department on Monday in the commercial hub of Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnam has intensified its step to keep a watch on social networking sites and vigil against offensive contents. Vietnam’s president earlier emphasized on the need to keep an eye on news sites and blogs with bad and dangerous content.
Vietnam which ranks among top 10 countries for Facebook users by numbers has come up with an internet security bill, yet to be approved, asking for local placement of Facebook and Google servers.
Vietnam known for high rate of social media use also has an image for curbing freedom of speech.
