    • Twitter Inc has
named Google Inc veteran Omid Kordestani its executive chairman, landing a
Silicon Valley heavyweight as the social-media company tries to reinvigorate
      itself, the
      Wall Street Journal said
      in a report.
    •
    • Jack Dorsey,
who last week became Twitter’s permanent chief executive and vacated the
chairman’s role, tweeted the announcement. “Omid is a proven & experienced
leader, who will directly help & coach me and our leadership, and help us
recruit the best folks to Twitter.”
    •
    • Kordestani
also confirmed the news with only the ninth tweet he has ever sent.
    •
    • As executive
chairman, Kordestani will be taking on a more operational role that goes beyond
overseeing the company’s performance, according to a Twitter spokesman.
    •
    • Kordestani
will be at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters regularly and will be
responsible for “providing leadership and support for the executive team, as
well as recruiting key talent,” the spokesman said.

    • While he may
not have used Twitter often, Kordestani, 51, brings with him an impressive
track record and a vast network from Google, where he started as its 11th hire
and rose through the ranks to become its chief business officer and a
      confidante of CEO Larry Page.

    • When Google
announced its reorganization into Alphabet Inc in August, Kordestani stepped
down as Google’s business chief and remained an adviser. He had departed from
Google in 2009, but returned in 2014 after then-Chief Business Officer Nikesh
      Arora left.
    •
    • Kordestani is credited with building Google’s sales and
business teams that propelled the search giant’s massive growth. He
orchestrated search deals with Netscape, then Yahoo Inc, and sealed Google’s
pivotal advertising deal with AOL in 2002.
    • “We’re
excited for Omid and very happy for Twitter.
Omid was instrumental in establishing Google’s business and helped us
develop really close, longstanding partnerships across the industry,” a Google spokesperson
      said.
