Micro-blogging service Twitter has raised a “significant round of funding” from Insight Venture Partners, T Rowe Price, Institutional Venture Partners, Spark Capital, Benchmark Capital and Morgan Stanley, according to Twitter CEO Evan Williams.

Though Williams has not disclosed the actual size of funding, Wall Street Journal, quoting people familiar with the matter, reports that Twitter has raised around $100 million at a valuation of $1 billion.

“It was important to us that we find investment partners who share our vision for building a company of enduring value. Twitter’s journey has just begun and we are committed to building the best product, technology, and company possible,” Evan Williams has said.

In February 2009, Twitter closed a $35-million venture capital round led by Institutional Venture Partners and Benchmark Capital. The company had earlier raised $20 million in two rounds of funding. Launched in March 2006, Twitter is currently believed to have over 55 million users worldwide.
