Online travel community platform Tripoto has raised its second round of funding led by IDG Ventures India and existing investors Outbox Ventures also participated in the round. The amount invested is undisclosed.

Following the round Karan Mohla from IDG Ventures will be joining Tripoto as a board member, reports YourStory. According to the report, the new funds will primarily be used for rapid growth in mobile, team augmentation and building upon the early success already seen in global expansion.

Founded by Anirudh Gupta and Michael Lyngdoh, Tripoto brings together travellers from around the world to share and discover real, and actionable crowdsourced travel stories. The startup maps every single destination in the story, along with the associated content and pictures.

Launched in early 2014, Tripoto raised a seed investment of $400,000 from angel investors led by Outbox Ventures, including Snapdeal’s Founders Kunal Bahl, Rohit Bansal and Sachin Bhatia of Trulymadly in November last year.

“We are excited to have IDG Ventures on board. They bring a lot of experience and  access to a global network for Tripoto,” Anirudh Gupta, Co-founder Tripoto told YourStory. “Most importantly, the IDG Ventures team is entrepreneur- friendly and easy to work with,” Anirudh added.

Speaking about the thought process behind the investment, Karan Mohla told YourStory, “We were highly impressed with Tripoto’s dominance and rapid growth. Their mobile app usage and engagement has witnessed phenomenal growth in the months since the launch. This is a strong and cohesive team led by Anirudh and Michael who have clearly demonstrated their ability to build and scale-up a world-class product. The segment of travel content and community is certainly ripe for disruption as it hasn’t seen true innovation in a few years.”

Over the past three months, Tripoto has witnessed 100% growth in web traffic while mobile traffic has seen much higher growth. Tripoto has consistently been rated as one of the top travel apps in both the Android and iOS stores. At present, the company gets 1.3 million unique pageviews on a monthly basis and has 50K plus downloads on Android and iOS platforms.
