Times Internet
will leverage its cross platform promotion and growth capabilities to help
millions of Indian students and professionals find Coursera and earn
certificates from top universities in India and around the world. All of Times
Internet’s partners have witnessed 300-500% growth after associating with
Times, and Times expects similar growth for Coursera.

India is a key
market for Coursera and it already has gained considerable momentum, with over
one million registered learners in the country. In addition to partnerships
with the top US universities, such as Yale University, University of
Pennsylvania, and Duke University, Coursera plans to partner with leading
Indian universities and corporations to localize content and serve the huge
demand in India for accessible credentials in the globally competitive fields
of business and technology.

Through the
partnership, Times will provide operating, strategic, and marketing support,
leveraging resources of The Times Group, India’s largest media company. As a
part of the alliance, Times Internet has also participated in the first round
of Coursera’s Series C financing of $49.5 million, also announced today.

Satyan Gajwani,
CEO, Times Internet, said, “Coursera is the gold standard for the emerging wave
of education technology companies. We are excited to bring Times Internet’s
growth capabilities behind such a strong product, and bring high quality,
affordable digital education to millions of Indians.”

“Indian learners
on Coursera are uniquely focused on building skills in business and technology
that are immediately applicable in their careers, more so than in any other
country,” said Rick Levin, CEO of Coursera. “The new strategic guidance from
Times Internet will allow us to expand awareness of the affordable credentials
available on Coursera from top universities to anyone with an internet
connection.”
