TaxSpanner launches online campaign to garner public support for reforming tax laws

Tax filing website TaxSpanner.com has launched ‘The Tax
Payer’s Charter
’ as an online campaign on Facebook to garner public support to
reform redundant and impractical laws and introduce new ones. The final
petition will be handed over to Finance Ministry for consideration once the
campaign receives a total of 100,000 signatures.

TaxSpanner had conducted a poll amongst its user
base to prioritize five laws as per the perception of people. The company seeks
that Medical Expense Reimbursement limit must be raised from Rs. 15,000 to Rs.
40,000 per annum (PA); Interest paid by Government on the late processing of
tax refund (6 per cent PA) and interest charged by Government (12 per cent PA)
should be at least equal; Principal amount of Education Loan must be allowed as
a deduction from taxable income; Income tax must be linked to inflation i.e. if
the annual income has not increased by more than inflation index, tax payable
must be adjusted accordingly and revise exemption limits for allowances for
child education, hostel and conveyance.
