The company already offers a food delivery service Ola Café.

The standalone
app ‘Ola Store’ allows customers to buy a range of 12,000 products across 13
categories, from fruit and vegetables, to eggs and dairy, frozen goods, baby
items and more. The service is initially on Android -with an iOS version “coming
soon”, reports TechCrunch.

The on-demand
grocery delivery app promises to make speedy deliveries of products between 8AM
and 11PM daily. Available only in Bengaluru at present, Ola Store claims to
deliver over 12,000 products across 13 categories, and has tie ups with big
stores such as Family Mall, Grocery Mart, and Namdhari’s Fresh. You can either
choose to get the delivery instantly, or schedule a delivery for between 8AM
and 11PM. Delivery is free above Rs. 250, and there are all the expected
payment options including cash on delivery.

In April, Ola
raised a $400 million Series E round led by DST Global, and now in
addition to expanding its scope of services, it is pushing geographical
expansions. According to a TechCrunch report, the company expects that Ola and
TaxiForSure — the competitor that it acquired for $200 million
earlier this year — will be in 200 cities by the end of this year.

Rival Uber is
yet to launch any experimental services in India. The company, which spent the
first part of this year grappling with the repercussions of the alleged
rape of a passenger, has since focused on building out its core business.

Recently, Uber expanded
into seven new cities to take its total 18 overall, making India its second
largest market behind the U.S. The company also added new safety features and more
stringent driver vetting to meet the demands set forth by the government. Uber
has also announced that it is investing $50 million in a support center in
Hyderabad in partnership with local authorities.
