SlideShare secures $3 million from US-based VC firm Venrock

SlideShare.net, which enables users to share PowerPoint presentations, has secured an investment of $3 million from US-based VC firm Venrock. With this investment, David Siminoff, managing partner at Venrock has joined SlideShare’s board of directors which currently includes Guy Kawasaki.

The company plans to use the funding to install bigger and faster servers and hire more engineers and employees to manage the website and business development operations.

According to SlideShare, the latest round of funding also includes smaller angel investments from Mark Cuban, founder Broadcast.com; Jonathan Abrams, founder, Friendster; Saul Klein, former VP, Skype; Hal Varian, chief economist, Google; Yee Lee, former director, Slide.com; and Ariel Poler, former chairman, Stumble Upon.
