People Group
founder
Anupam Mittal has stepped
down as CEO of online matrimonial portal Shaadi.com to focus on global
expansion and new areas of business.

According to an
Economic Times report, Mittal will be taking on the mantle of managing director
while Gourav Rakshit, who was the chief operating officer, takes over as
Shaadi.com’s new CEO. An alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad Rakshit has been with the
People Group in different roles since 2007. Prior to that, he worked with
Infosys, Planetasia and Nestle.

“Day to day
responsibilities will now move to Gourav, while I still continue to guide the
company with a focus on corporate development and acquisitions,” Mittal
told the Economic Times. People Group also includes mobile media firm Mauj and
app store Mobango with group revenues exceeding Rs 300 crore in FY15.

The move comes
after People Group merged
its realty portal Makaan with Proptiger
in April this year. Before that, in
January, People Group bought about 25% stake in dating applications maker Thrill in
a cash and stock deal valued at close to $1 million. The company also merged
its dating platform Fropper with Delhi-based Thrill Applications
, a
wholly-owned subsidiary of Thrill.

Shaadi is also
looking to raise a new round of funding of at least $100 million to finance its
expansion plans and pave the way for exit of investors such as WestBridge
Capital and Silicon Valley Bank, reports the Economic Times.

Mittal will be joining the corporate development team. The company also roped
in former head of Marico’s global centre of excellence for digital and media Aditya
Save as chief marketing officer (CMO). Shaadi has also hired Ketan Doshi, an
IIT-Bombay and Stanford graduate who used to be director of product development
at BMC Software as chief technology officer (CTO). Both Save and Doshi
will report to Rakshit.
