Search marketing spends to reach $225 million by 2009-10: IAMAI

The size of the SEM (search engine marketing) industry in India is expected to grow from $112.5 million in 2007-08 to $175 million in 2008-09 and $225 million in 2009-10, according to a joint study by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and IMRB.

The IAMAI-IMRB study found that about 75 per cent of the 29 million active internet users in India use search compared to 35 per cent in 2004. The study also reveals that 64 per cent of the active internet users in the country prefer Google while Yahoo is preferred by 20 per cent users.

According to the study, more than 70 per cent of the users landing on a search engine are from the top eight metros. About 47 per cent of the active internet users in the country search for education related information while 21 per cent users search for entertainment based content. [Source: Afaqs ]
