Rural Tourism Network Enterprise (RTNE.co.in), an initiative incubated by Chennai-based IFMR Trust, is an online platform that allows users to book accommodation in rural travel destinations in India. Launched in December 2009, the website currently covers 19 destinations and claims to have booked lodgings worth over Rs 10 lakh till now.

“India has many unexplored rural destinations and is dotted with lot of places to stay, however there is no place wherein you may find information on such places and can book accommodations. Thus RTNE was formed,” Karmveer Rathore, tourism sector specialist at IFMR Trust, has told AlooTechie.

RTNE.co.in doesn’t have registered users as any visitor to the site can browse, select and request for a booking directly. The company has more than 200 direct and indirect partners to list all the accommodation options available. Currently, payments are made into the company’s bank account through cheques or demand drafts. There are also plans to introduce other payment options like credit cards later.

According to Rathore, the website has partnered with portals like RangDe, HolidayIQ and KonkanInfo.com to provide content to those websites and service leads generated through them. “We are tying up with more partners and portals looking for inventory and get good daily hits. We work on payment per lead and revenue shares on converted leads,” Rathore informed.
