      Reuters report said.

    •
    • The move is
seen as both a bit of novel marketing, and a sign of the rising commodization
      of the mobile phone market.
    •
    • The food and
beverage company, however, has no plans to get into the mobile phone
manufacturing business, a PepsiCo spokeswoman said.
    •
    • “Available
in China only, this effort is similar to recent globally-licensed Pepsi
products, which include apparel and accessories,” the spokeswoman said.
    •
    • She did not
name the licensing partner or give any further details about the phone.

    • Technology
      website
      Mobipicker was the first to
report, on October 11, that PepsiCo would release a smartphone, called Pepsi
P1, with “decent but not high-end specs” on October 20.
    •
    • The purported
      phone would likely feature a 5.5-inch, 1080p screen, 1.7GHz processor and 16GB
of storage. It’s expected to cost about $205.
    •
    • The company
would well be aware of the fact, though, that Samsung had 21.9% and Apple stood
at 14.6% of worldwide sales in this year’s second quarter, according to
Gartner. All other mobile companies had single-digit shares or less. Therefore,
the road ahead for PepsiCo in this segment is no cakewalk.
    •
    • PepsiCo
already has many licensees across a number of categories. Last year, it tied up
with companies such as Danish luxury stereo and TV maker Bang & Olufsen,
and Italian shoemaker Del Toro for a range of products for its football
      campaign.
