Online matrimony sector currently worth Rs 140 crore: Report

According to a report published in India Today, the online matrimony sector with 100 odd marriage sites is currently worth Rs 140 crore, up from Rs 58 crore in 2006. The year-on-year growth for matrimonial services is 130 per cent, while that of dating sites is 88 per cent.

India has some 38.5 million internet users and nearly 60 per cent are below the age of 25. Of them, 48 per cent are registered with matrimonial sites, 51 per cent with dating and friendship sites and 37 per cent of internet users are into both the activities.

According to a report published in India Today, the online matrimony sector with 100 odd marriage sites is currently worth Rs 140 crore, up from Rs 58 crore in 2006. The year-on-year growth for matrimonial services is 130 per cent, while that of dating sites is 88 per cent.

Matrimonial sites are now the 13th most popular mainstream online activity. About half of urban India’s internet users, which translate into 12 million people, use online matrimonial searches, states the India Today report quoting a new survey by JuxtConsult.

“Clearly, the golden age of online mating is on us. Just ask the executives of Shaadi.com, which reports 50 successful matchmakings a day. Or look at BharatMatrimony.com, where you’ll get the maximum number of educated profiles. Jeevansathi.com gets 119 million page views,” India Today writes.
