Online food ordering platform Foodpanda acquires Just Eat India

Online
food ordering platform Foodpanda.in has announced the acquisition of Just Eat
thereby expanding its market leadership in one of the biggest food delivery
markets in the world. The company has recently also acquired food delivery business
TastyKhana.in.

markets in the world. The company has recently also acquired food delivery business
TastyKhana.in.

In exchange to the sale, Just Eat receives a minority
holding in Foodpanda India, which will assume full ownership of Just Eat India.

Just
Eat India was launched as Hungry Bangalore in 2006. It was renamed in 2011 when
Just Eat acquired a majority share in the business. Today, the company partners
with over 2,000 restaurants.  The current
management’s local experience and knowledge will further add to the expertise
of Foodpanda and TastyKhana teams in India.

customers in India.”

Foodpanda,
which has been present in the Indian market since May 2012, operates in 39
countries across five continents globally. In November 2014, Foodpanda acquired
TastyKhana, which was launched in the city of Pune in 2007. Together with
TastyKhana and Just Eat, Foodpanda is present in over 200 cities and partners
with over 12,000 restaurants.

Foodpanda
also announced that it is has fully acquired key competitors in 7 countries and
thereby consolidates its leading position across the South-East-Asian and Asian
food delivery market. It acquired competitors in India, Malaysia, Singapore,
Philippines, Pakistan,, Hong Kong, and Thailand.

Weeks
after a series
of acquisition in Europe
, the foodpanda group now also gained a leading
position in South East Asia, next to its other core markets in India, Russia,
Brazil and Mexico.
