Naukri.com: Job Index indicates 3.9% decline in new hiring in Oct 2009

According to a study by Info Edge India’s job portal Naukri.com, the job market witnessed a decline of 3.9 per cent in new hiring in October 2009, as compared with an increase of 4.1 per cent in September 2009. The study also reveals that while Mumbai and Pune saw a dip in hiring activity in October, Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi-NCR, Kolkata and Hyderabad saw a positive trend.

According to a study by Info Edge India’s job portal Naukri.com, the job market witnessed a decline of 3.9 per cent in new hiring in October 2009, as compared with an increase of 4.1 per cent in September 2009. The study also reveals that while Mumbai and Pune saw a dip in hiring activity in October, Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi-NCR, Kolkata and Hyderabad saw a positive trend.

“Indications are that the economic slowdown and hiring have bottomed out. We are now in the recovery stage as far as hiring is concerned. October figures are down on September due to seasonality and holidays due to festivals. Numbers are on expected lines,” Ambarish Raghuvanshi, chief financial officer, Info Edge India, has said.

JobSpeak, an index that showcases the current job scenario, states that the overall job index in October 2009 was 701, as compared to 729 in September 2009 and 1000 in the base month of July 2008. The index has been calculated based on new jobs added to Naukri.com month on month. According to Info Edge India, more than 34,000 national and international clients used Naukri.com in 2008-2009, leading to high reliability of data.
