A select group of officials of Mumbai Police’s cyber crime cell regularly scan internet for blog posts and articles that may arouse ‘communal, racial and regional passions’, and then get them deleted before other netizens could lay their eyes on these ‘scurrilous’ posts, reports Times of India.

“There are thousands of posts that can lead to dangerous law-and-order problems,” a senior crime branch official has been quoted as saying. “So our officers work all night, scanning the net for these posts and then destroy them before they can do wider damage.”

“A person posted remarks against a Maratha icon and they were extremely derogatory. We caught the person and warned him very sternly. Another teenager created a blog and went on writing scurrilous comments against Raj Thackeray; we immediately blocked the blog and traced him,” another official has said.
