London School of Business and Finance has launched LSBF Global MBA, a Facebook application that allows users to sample video lectures of typical business school courses like corporate finance and organizational behaviour on the social networking site. According to LSBF, the application also allows users to interact with people from firms like Accenture Management Consulting and Deloitte. The app has already attracted over 34,000 users on Facebook since its launch in October 2010.

While the course material being offered through Facebook app is free, students seeking formal accreditation must qualify for entrance into the MBA programme. Once enrolled in the paid course, students are given access to additional content on the college’s InterActive course management system, and are required to sit for examinations. The Facebook MBA programme is accredited by University of Wales and costs £14,500 ($22,000).

According to Steve Parscale, director of accreditation for Kansas(US)-based Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programmes, sample classes offered through social networking sites could provide great advertising opportunities for online colleges. “The younger generation is all on social media. If you can get them on Facebook to test-drive a class, then you can get them to actually enrol,” Parscale has said. [Source: The Chronicle]
