Less than 3% of global internet attacks originate in India: Report

India has ranked tenth in the list of countries where most of the internet attacks such as worms, viruses and bots originated in the first quarter of 2008, according to a recent report by web services provider Akamai Technologies. Akamai’s inaugural State of the Internet report states that a mere 2.53 per cent of the total attack traffic had its origin in India in the January-March 2008 quarter.

Akamai’s inaugural State of the Internet report states that a mere 2.53 per cent of the total attack traffic had its origin in India in the January-March 2008 quarter.

China led the list by contributing 16.77 per cent of the total internet attacks, followed by US which contributed 14.33 per cent of the global cyber attacks. The other countries in the top-ten list are Taiwan, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, South Korea and Turkey.

The report, which is based on data gathered across Akamai’s global server network, also found that the internet attacks traffic originated from 125 countries around the world, of which the top 10 countries contributed about 75 per cent.
