Less than 2% of mobile users in India access internet on mobile phones

Games, email, entertainment, music and sports are the most popular with mobile internet users in India, according to a report by The Nielsen Company. The report also reveals that only 1.8 per cent of mobile users in the country have accessed the internet on their mobile phones.

According to the Mobile Media Marketplace report, gaming websites are popular amongst 38 per cent of mobile internet users in India, followed by email amongst 33 per cent of mobile internet users. Entertainment, music and sports sites are popular amongst 21, 18 and 15 per cent of the total mobile internet users respectively.

“Mobile fills an important access gap in nations where internet access is not always readily available in homes and schools,” Jeff Herrmann, vice president of mobile media at Nielsen, has said, adding, “The development and uptake of mobile data services will have a tremendous positive impact on economies like Brazil, Russia, India and China.”
