Kerala Police has written to Facebook following a complaint
from the parents of a young woman whose photograph was posted on the social
networking site and identified as the Delhi gang-rape victim.

Confirming the development, N Vinayakumaran Nair, assistant
commissioner of police, who heads the Hi-Tech Crime Enquiry Cell, said a probe
had begun in the complaint, “We have
written to the site which posted the picture. It should have been removed by
now. Soon, after the picture was posted, there were numerous comments saying it
was fake.”

Refusing to disclose complainant’s
name, he said that the police will soon find out how this happened.

The picture which is doing the rounds of the social
networking website is that of a pretty, smiling girl in a kurta with another
picture of a visibly ill woman being attended to by doctors in an inset. The
photo comes with a caption that claims the girls in the two pictures to be the
Delhi gang-rape victim.
