The company plans to invest $5- $10 million (approx Rs 20-40 crore) on Shiksha.com over the next three years.

Hitesh Oberoi, COO and director, Info Edge India, has said, “The education market in India is pegged at over Rs 120,000 crore, with over 10 million people registering for higher education every year. Shiksha.com will provide a platform to students in the 15-24 age group to research courses and colleges online. At the same time it will enable educational institutes to reach out to their target audience.”

Shiksha.com lists information on graduate, post graduate and vocational programs from colleges in India and in countries like Singapore, US, UK and Australia. The site allows users to interact with other Shiksha.com users, college and alumni groups. Shiksha.com will also enable educational institutions to upload videos, presentations and documents to communicate with students online.

According to an industry expert, Info Edge India is already in the business of facilitating handshakes. The company currently has a number of websites including a job site Naukri.com, a matrimony site JeevanSathi.com and a real estate portal 99acres.com. With Shiksha.com, the good thing is that students and educational institutes are already internet savvy and there is a huge opportunity to connect them. And so, Info Edge is trying to fill this gap.
