Indian Railways reduces service charges levied on purchase of e-tickets

Indian Railways has reduced service charges levied on purchase of e-tickets from Rs 40 to Rs 20 for AC classes and from Rs 15 to Rs 10 for sleeper class, with effect from April 1, 2010. According to reports, 30 per cent of all tickets booked in Indian Railways today are e-tickets.

The move is expected to result in a drop of about 30 per cent in IRCTC’s earnings from sale of e-tickets. IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) runs Indian Railways’ online passenger reservation site IRCTC.co.in for railway tickets booking. [Source: Hindu Business Line]
