Indian netizens on an average spend $2,066 on internet in a year: Study

The Indian netizens on an average spent $2,066 during the year ended June 2009 buying goods and services on internet, according to a study by payment solutions provider Visa. In comparison, the internet users in Asia-Pacific were found to be spending on an average close to $2,526.

While paying for music downloads remained the most popular online purchase in the Asia-Pacific region, close to 22 per cent of the Indian spends happened for purchase of airline tickets with the average purchase being pegged at about $700.

“Travel-related services remained the biggest online shopping category. Being able to search for a good deal, compare prices and save money is definitely a driver for consumers to go online,” Uttam Nayak, country manager, south Asia for Visa, has said. [Source: Economic Times]
