Indian internet user base grows by 27% to 28.37 million

India has witnessed a growth of 27 per cent in the number of internet users, who access the Net from home and work locations and are aged 15 years and above, at 28.37 million in April 2008, as compared to 22.39 million a year ago, according to a report by US-based internet research firm comScore Networks.

The State of the Global Internet with a Focus on Asia reveals that during the past year, India had the highest growth in the Asia-Pacific internet audience which grew by 14 per cent to 319 million visitors in April 2008, outpacing the growth of all other worldwide regions.

India has witnessed a growth of 27 per cent in the number of internet users, who access the Net from home and work locations and are aged 15 years and above, at 28.37 million in April 2008, as compared to 22.39 million a year ago, according to a report by US-based internet research firm comScore Networks.

The State of the Global Internet with a Focus on Asia reveals that during the past year, India had the highest growth in the Asia-Pacific internet audience which grew by 14 per cent to 319 million visitors in April 2008, outpacing the growth of all other worldwide regions.

However, it has to be noted that the comScore figures exclude the traffic from public computers such as cyber cafes and access from mobile phones or PDAs. The total number of people accessing internet could be much higher if those aged below 15 years and the public computer data and new-age mediums such as mobiles and PDAs are also taken into consideration.
