The government of India has launched a National Mission for Education through Information and Communication Technology to provide broadband internet connectivity in 18,000 colleges and 400 universities in the country.

The announcement was made by President of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil, during her address to the Parliament on 22nd February 2010. “My government is committed to bringing about a paradigm shift in our education infrastructure based on the three pillars of expansion, inclusion and excellence,” she said.
