India ranks 97 globally in terms of average internet speed: Study

According to Akamai Technologies’ latest State of the Internet report, India ranks No.97 globally in terms of average internet connection speed. The report reveals that the country had an average internet connection speed of 897 Kbps (kilo bits per second) in the third quarter ended December 2009.

According to Akamai Technologies’ latest State of the Internet report, India ranks No.97 globally in terms of average internet connection speed. The report reveals that the country had an average internet connection speed of 897 Kbps (kilo bits per second) in the third quarter ended December 2009.

Globally, the average connection speed was 1.7 Mbps (mega bits per second) and South Korea maintained the highest average connection speed at 14.6 Mbps. Kerala topped the list of Indian states, with an average speed of 1,386 Kbps, followed by Haryana with an average speed of 1,105 Kbps. During the third quarter, Delhi had an average internet speed of 896 Kbps.

The report also states that India ranked No.21 globally in terms of number of unique IP addresses in the third quarter ended December 2009. The country had over 3 million IPs. Delhi and Maharashtra continued to top the list of Indian states with over 1 million unique IPs each. An IP (internet protocol) address is a unique 32-bit number, which identifies a computer in an IP network.
