India is 3rd largest internet market and 5th largest online video market worldwide: Google

Rajan Anandan, managing director and vice president, sales and operations, Google India highlighted that there was 20 times growth in search queries coming from India over the last 5 years and India has 100 million unique internet users spending 16 hours a week online.

Anandan said this while delivering his keynote presentation titled ‘You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet’ on the first day of Ad:Tech New Delhi, held at The Leela Kempinski in Gurgaon on April 27-28, 2011. According to Anandan, out of the 100 million users, 30 million access internet from home, 40 million access from office and the rest 30 million access from cyber cafes.

“India is the third largest internet market in the world in terms of users and Indians research online, purchase offline,” Anandan said. Presenting some stats, Anandan showed that this phenomenon is most well represented in the technology sector where 72 out of 100 people do that. He further said that only 30 per cent of the entire air travel booking in India is done online and 54 per cent travel searches are meant for hotels. 47 per cent of people have changed their minds about buying a camera after researching online

Speaking about videos, Anandan said that more videos were uploaded in the last two months compared to the content produced by the largest TV network of USA in the last 72 years. India is also the fifth largest online video market in the world. For Anandan, the three big trends to look forward to were online video, mobile, and the online display advertisements.
