Naspers-owned ibiboGroup has launched a ride-sharing app

According to a
e27 report, Ryde connects private car owners with people who wish to travel to
similar destinations within the same city or different cities. In this segment,
Ryde will be competing against Tripda and BlaBlaCar in India.

While Tripda is focused
on long-distance rides, BlaBlaCar offers short-distance rides. Tripda, headquartered
in Brazil, has raised $11 million from Rocket Internet and a few unnamed VC
investors in the US for further expansion.

Ryde allows
users to check verified member profiles, send messages before or after booking
requests, send chat messages, along with real-time tracking of the driver and
vehicle. Drivers can create custom preferences on waiting time, detour, luggage
size, music, smoking, etc.

Passengers can
search and get matched with trusted members of the community who are offering
their rides. Members can choose source, destination and per-seat price, and
publish the ride. They then get requests by passengers who are willing to share
the ride. Once the ride ends, the driver can review the passenger and get the
money in his/her account.

Early this
month, India-based taxi booking venture Carzonrent acquired local intra-city
ride sharing venture RidingO.
