South African media company Naspers MIH funded Ibibo Web has launched an online book store at TradusBooks.in, as an extension of its online shopping and auction portal Tradus.in. According to Ibibo, TradusBooks.in has partnered with eight big publishers and some smaller publishers and currently hosts about 60,000 books on the portal. TradusBooks claims to have attracted around 1.2 lakh registered users and sold over 500 titles since its launch on June 18, 2010.

“Books, as a category, have been very popular on Tradus.in but it isn’t a good idea to have auctions for books. Hence, we planned to have an ecommerce portal on books as an extension of Tradus. Besides, Naspers is targeting ecommerce and gaming as a couple of very clear focus areas of growth in India and hence there are plans of launching other ecommerce verticals as well,” Rahul Sethi, president, ecommerce, Ibibo Web, has told AlooTechie.
