IAMAI appoints S Bikhchandani as chairman; Ajit Balakrishnan named Chairman Emeritus

Ajit Balakrishnan, founder, chairman and managing director of Rediff.com, has been appointed Chairman Emeritus of Internet and Mobile Association of India. IAMAI has also appointed Sanjeev Bikhchandani, founder and CEO of Info Edge India (Naukri.com), as its new chairman for the year 2008-09.

In his capacity as the Chairman Emeritus, a life-time appointment, Ajit Balakrishnan would head the Council of past Chairpersons and provide strategic direction to the association as well as the internet and mobile content and services industry.

Sanjay Aggarwal, general manager, operations, Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has been elected vice chairman and Ratish Nair, co-founder, Interactive Avenues, the treasurer of IAMAI for the year 2008-09. According to IAMAI, Dr Subho Ray, the current secretary and president of the association will continue with his current responsibilities.

Sanjeev Bikhchandani has said, “Building bridges and partnerships with relevant government agencies is the top priority (before the association). Broadband penetration, better terms of business for online publishers and mobile content and services industry too are on top of the list.”

“Overall the digital industry needs focused collective action to make internet and mobile content and services popular and at the same time, create an enabling environment for business. It is, therefore, necessary that the representative association of the industry, IAMAI, is strengthened,” Sanjeev Bikhchandani has added.
