According to Google, the company is still experimenting with ways to improve the quality of the data shown by Google Trends for Websites. “Because data is estimated and aggregated over a variety of sources, it may not match the other data sources you rely on for web traffic information,” R J Pittman, director of product management, consumer search properties, Google, has warned.

Interestingly, Google Trends for Websites doesn’t display data for Google-owned sites, including Google.com, Blogger, YouTube, and social networking site Orkut. “What’s up with that? Google has no problem releasing the data from rivals such as Yahoo and Microsoft’s MSN.com, but somehow its own cooking is a trade secret?” wonders Motley Fool.
