Google search to show healthcare information

Google will now show common health conditions and relevant medical facts as information cards in Hindi or English, reported Medianama. The feature will be available across all platforms including smartphones, PCs and tablets and on its search app in both iOS and Android.

Now when queried about a health condition, Google search will display relevant medical facts right up front from the Knowledge Graph. It will show user typical symptoms and treatments, as well as details on how common the condition is—whether it’s critical, if it’s contagious, what ages it affects, and more. For some conditions user will also see high-quality illustrations from licensed medical illustrators. With this basic info from Google, user would find it easier to do more research on other sites around the web, or know what questions to ask your doctor, explaining the utility of this new service, the Google blog post read.

Google aggregates more than 400 health conditions and will display them through cards when a user queries for an illness or a symptom. The cards will also include relevant images, and can be downloaded as a PDF. Google will display ‘lite’ versions of the card if a user is found to be having a limited or slow internet connection.

Google has worked with a team of medical doctors to carefully compile, curate, and review this information. All of the gathered facts represent real-life clinical knowledge from these doctors and high-quality medical sources across the web, and the information has been checked by medical doctors at Google and the Mayo Clinic for accuracy.

Though Google says that it has taken all care to give right information but cautions that it should not be taken as medical advice. The information provided by Google search results are intended for informational purposes only—and in case of medical concern, one should always consult a healthcare professional.
Google hopes to empower users in their health decisions by helping them learn more about common conditions. And plans to cover many more medical conditions and extend this to other parts of the world.
